Our History

Music in Catholic Schools began in 1979 under the leadership of Sr. Genevieve Schillo, Superintendent of Schools, and Sr. Marie Juan Maney, Coordinator of Music at St. Cecilia Cathedral. A group of parents formed the first Governing Board, with teachers Barbara Sanders and Debra Lund serving more than 200 students across 20 schools.

By 1982, the program expanded to include additional Catholic elementary schools and five Lutheran schools. Over time, enrollment grew to more than 400 students annually. Today, Music in Catholic Schools serves 27 Catholic and 2 Lutheran schools with a dedicated team of certified instructors, continuing a proud tradition of making music education accessible and affordable.
